Individual Counseling

I mainly draw from cognitive and person-centered therapy frameworks. I integrate interventions from Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy specifically. While these types of therapy can be very structured, I tend to approach sessions in a more unstructured manner depending on client need and preference.

We’ll working on creating goals that align with your values, not someone else’s, and I’ll help you work towards those goals in a supportive yet challenging way. Most of my sessions also incorporate:

  • talking about past relationships and experiences
  • identifying unhelpful thoughts and beliefs you hold about yourself, others, or the world
  • learning to cope with distressing emotions
  • challenging and replacing negative self-talk
  • identifying and changing behaviors that are keeping you stuck

I hope my clients walk away with a better understanding of themselves and where their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors come from. I work to empower them to change their perspectives to better serve them and their goals. I want therapy to be a place where it’s okay to feel your emotions fully without judgment while also learning that our thoughts or emotions don’t have to consume us all the time. Many clients leave therapy with more clarity, balance, and adaptability to life’s challenges.

Couples Counseling

I use Gottman Couples Therapy principles. I am Level 2 Trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Couples therapy always starts with an in-depth intake of your history and presenting problems, and it most often involves at least one individual session with each partner. Most of my sessions afterwards incorporate:

  • developing more effective communication skills
  • processing and resolving conflicts
  • learning how to compromise on longstanding issues
  • identifying ways to build a better emotional connection and implement them into your routine
  • deepening your understanding of your partner
  • building trust after a betrayal if relevant

Couples therapy can help you build more confidence in handling difficult conversations. You’ll learn that most issues between couples are perpetual, and you’ll feel better equipped to make temporary compromises. Above all, I hope my couples leave therapy better able to listen, empathize, and work with their partner as a teammate, not an adversary.
